ANZSNM Tasmanian Winter Seminar - Sat 9 August - Hobart
My first university degree was a Bachelor of Science (specialising in Chemistry) at Monash University, and my interest in biological sciences then led me to my second degree, which was a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations - specialising in Nuclear Medicine).
I began my professional career working as a nuclear medicine technologist in Melbourne and we moved to London, where I had the incredible opportunity to work both in an oncology research position, and then in a role which saw me establish a private PET facility in Central London.
We returned to Australia to raise our children and I chose to work less. We now have three school aged daughters. After a string of illness and self guided research I followed my passion, and embarked on another degree - Postgraduate Nutrition, through Deakin University.
I maintain my registration and licencing and still help out in nuclear medicine at Northern Nuclear Medicine in Burnie, but I've certainly changed focus from my earlier days working full time in the hospital system.
I now work passionately as a nutritionist and health coach, and love my clients and my job. I was given the opportunity recently to combine my old profession, with my new profession, and joined with other invited speakers to present some information about "Nutrition for Radiation Workers."

We had a great day with some lively discussions in a beautiful venue at the Royal Botanical Gardensin Hobart, hosted by the Vic/Tas branch of the Austraian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM).
We discussed the importance of good diet in a profession where there is an elevated burden of heavy metals, radiation and disease risk on top of the already high environmental burdens in our modern environment. |
